Obituary: Tyler L. Hawkins

April 10, 1987 – January 20, 2025

Tyler L. Hawkins, 37, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born on April 10, 1987, in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Ron and Cindy (Axsom) Hawkins. Tyler was a 2005 graduate of Edgewood High School in Ellettsville, IN. He married the love of his life Angela Joy “Angel” Nicholson on April 15, 2006, in Ellettsville, IN, and they were married for eighteen years.

Tyler first worked in assembly for Cook Medical in Bloomington, and then as a Patient Care Tech for the IU Health Bloomington Hospital for several years. He was currently working as the District Field Manager for CaptionCall by Sorenson Communications overseeing several states in the area.

Tyler was a great husband and father; he cherished every moment with his wife, children and family. He was an amazing son, brother, uncle and friend. He was full of life and was always on the go helping others, he truly had a servant’s heart. He loved people and never met a stranger. He was an avid golfer, loved playing softball and watching baseball, especially the Cubs, he enjoyed every part of his life.

Tyler was the athletic assistant director of the NACSC Team at Covenant Christian School and helped establish the Greater Indiana Christian Athletic Conference. He also helped coach the Covenant Christian boys’ basketball team. He was a member of Turning Point Apostolic Church. He will be greatly missed by everyone who loved and knew him.

Tyler is survived by his wife, Angel Hawkins; three children, Mason Lee Hawkins, Callahan Ryder Hawkins and Wriglie Jade Hawkins; his parents, Ron and Cindy Hawkins of Ellettsville; his brother, Jordan (Emily) Hawkins of Ellettsville; his sister, Abigail (Alex) Mahurin of Ellettsville; grandparents, Don and Jackie Hawkins of Bloomington; mother-in-law, Jean Nicholson of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, Bill (Katherine) Nicholson of Shawnee, OK; sister-in-law, Desiree McVay Nicholson of Indianapolis; great grandma, Thelma Rockwell of Bloomington; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tyler Lee Hawkins; grandparents, Leston and Clara Mae Axsom; and his great grandparents.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Family Life Church, 8449 N. Fox Hollow Road, in Bloomington, with Rev. Duane Coffman officiating. Visitation will be held from Noon until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, also at the Family Life Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in Tyler’s memory to the NACSC at Covenant Christian School, a project Tyler help lead at the school.
