INDIANA – Kia America has issued a recall affecting over 80,000 vehicles due to a wiring issue that could prevent airbags and seat belts from deploying during an emergency. The recall covers specific 2023-2025 models of the Niro EV, Niro Plug-in Hybrid, and Niro Hybrid.

The issue stems from improper wiring in the floor assembly, which could potentially impact the functionality of critical safety features in the event of a crash. To address the problem, Kia dealers will replace and reroute the floor wiring assembly as needed at no cost to vehicle owners.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified via mail starting in March with further instructions. In the meantime, Kia urges drivers to remain alert for any signs of malfunction, although there have been no reports of accidents or injuries linked to the issue.
This recall follows a separate one in November when Kia and its sister company, Hyundai, recalled more than 200,000 electric vehicles. That recall addressed a faulty transistor in the charging control unit, which could fail and cause a loss of drive power, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
Kia has stated that they are working diligently to resolve the issue and ensure the safety of their customers.
