BEDFORD – Lawrence County Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder presented three roads to the county commissioners this morning that will be improved using Community Crossing funds – Seibolt Quarry Road in District 1, Stumphole Bridge Road in District 2, and West Powerline Road in District 3.
In his report, Sowder also addressed concerns he’s received from residents regarding snow plowing and road treatment. He clarified that the highway department is only responsible for clearing and treating county roads, not private roads or drives in housing developments. Several residents had inquired about plowing services for their private roads, but Sowder emphasized that these roads fall outside the department’s jurisdiction.
The commissioners took the opportunity to praise the highway department again for its quick and efficient work during recent snowstorms.
“The highway department has done an excellent job clearing the roads promptly,” said Commissioner President Rodney Fish, highlighting the department’s continued dedication to public safety during winter weather events.
