Bedford teen faces charges following domestic incident

BEDFORD – A 13-year-old male of Bedford is facing juvenile delinquency charges of strangulation and battery following a domestic altercation that occurred on Wednesday, January 29, at a residence on 26th Street.

According to Bedford Police Department’s probable cause affidavit, officers responded to a reported disturbance involving a male juvenile who allegedly assaulted his stepmother. The incident began when the teen’s grandmother called his stepmother to pick him up due to behavioral issues. The child was not listening and was being verbally abusive.

Sgt. Toby Gerkin’s report indicates that the situation escalated after the stepmother attempted to discipline the youth. The teen allegedly responded by striking her in the shoulder and briefly restricting her breathing in what was described as a “choke hold.”

The juvenile was temporarily detained and transported to the Bedford Police Department. Following consultation with Juvenile Probation, he was released to his father’s custody with a promise to appear at a February 5, 2025 hearing.

The teen faces juvenile delinquency charges related to domestic battery and strangulation. No serious injuries were reported in the incident.
