Billy A. Combs, 82, of Owensburg, IN, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at IU Health Methodist Hospital from injuries sustained in a fall.
Born July 27, 1942, in Linton, IN, he was the son of Clyde and Edith Rose (Cline) Combs. He married Kathleen (Schumacher) Hanson on May 1, 1987, and she preceded him in death on March 11, 2022.
After retirement, he enjoyed serving his community by being on the Jackson Township Advisory Board and being an active member of the Owensburg community.
Billy was a member of many organizations, including the Solsberry Masonic Lodge, the Stone Belt Shrine Club, where he was a past President and was currently serving as Treasurer; The Linton Shrine Club; the La-Or-Ma Shrine Club; the Murat Shrine; the Scottish Rite, Indianapolis; the Jesters Court 15, Indianapolis; the VFW in Gosport, IN; Amvets, Bloomington; The Bloomington American Legion Post 18, the Owensburg Euchre Club; and the Monday Pool Association of Owensburg.
Billy was baptized in the Baptist Church and was named a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving to cherish Billy’s memory is his daughter, Debbie (Brian) Sanders of Greencastle; three stepdaughters, Beth (David) Roberts of California, Ginny Thompson of Owensburg; and Amy (Phil) Thorne of Bedford; two sisters, Mary Jane Sutton, and Reta Mae McGuire; grandchildren, Jada Stump, Levi Runnells, Leigh (Shane) Roberts, Neil (Shannon) Hanson, Carrie (Josh) Helms, Ben (Alex) Roberts, James Hanson, Elizabeth (Donald) Rector, Emily (Johnny Kauffman) Roberts, Lindsey (Nick) Tyree, Abby (Derek) George and Caleb (Jacy) Thorne; along with several great and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Billy in death were his mother and father; his wife, Kathleen Schumacher Combs; his brother, Jimmy Combs; two sisters, Beverly Joann Parker and an infant sister; stepson, Danny Hanson and his wife Katie; stepson-in-law, Paul Wayne Thompson; and great-granddaughter, Hunter Thompson Roberts.
Funeral services for Billy Alan Combs will be held at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne- George Family Funeral Homes, 818 18th Street, Bedford, Indiana, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Phil Thorne officiating. Burial will follow in the Owensburg Cemetery, with Military Rites being accorded by the American Legion, Bloomington Post 18 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4th, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., with Masonic Rites at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Billy’s memory to the Shriners Hospitals.
