Columbus Police mourn the loss of retired police dog Argo

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Police Department is grieving the loss of retired police dog Argo, who passed away on Thursday at 13. Argo served the department for 12 years alongside his handler, Officer Branch Schrader, from 2012 until his retirement in April 2024.

Argo, a German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix, made an indelible impact throughout his career, contributing to 482 arrests, 443 narcotics seizures, and the search of 105 buildings. He also participated in over 150 trackings, including locating missing children, showcasing his invaluable role in keeping the community safe.

Following his retirement, Argo remained with Officer Schrader as a companion dog, continuing to share his life with the officer who had been his partner for over a decade.

The Columbus Police Department expressed their deep sorrow, acknowledging that Argo was not just a dog, but a trusted team member and protector. His service and loyalty to the department will not be forgotten.
