BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence’s Ethan Stancombe and Wyatt Philpott will compete in the IHSAA regional at Bloomington South on Saturday.

After advancing from the sectional at Bloomington North, the two Stars will be chasing a berth in the semistate. The top four in each weight class will qualify for the third stage of the state tournament series, which means each competitor must win their first-round regional match (in the field of eight) to advance.

Philpott, who owns an 18-7 record, will face Jasper’s Nolan Mullins (32-5 and the champion from the Southridge sectional) in the first round at 120 pounds.

Stancombe, a senior with a sparking 21-3 record, will clash with Tell City sophomore Brandon Casebolt (19-20) in the opener at 157. Stancombe, a sectional runner-up last week, qualified for the semistate last season.

Mitchell’s Gabe Brazzell will also compete at 144. Brazzell (11-7) will meet Terre Haute South’s Noah Fields (24-10) in the first round.

The semistate (which will include qualifiers from regionals at Castle, Jeffersonville and Mooresville) is set for Feb. 15 in Evansville. The top four in the semistate will advance to the state finals in Indianapolis on Feb. 21.l
