GREENE CO. – A Greene County postal worker is facing charges following an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service. Winston Williams, 27, of Bloomfield, is charged with Level 6 felony official misconduct and Class A misdemeanor theft.

The investigation began shortly before Christmas after a postal inspector reported suspicious activity. The postmaster noted that Williams had a nearly 42% non-delivery rate on his route on a single day in December. Data also indicated that Williams bypassed numerous houses on his route, yet there was no backlog of mail at the post office.
Following this discovery, supervisors found over 500 mail pieces in Williams’ personal vehicle. Williams claimed his mail tray had broken and that he stored the mail in his car to avoid complaints about returning undelivered mail.
Special Agent Brian Clancy with the USPS Office of Inspector General filed the probable cause affidavit in Greene County Superior Court on January 22.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
