Woman arrested after providing false statements to police

WILLIAMS – A Williams woman faces a charge of false informing following a single-vehicle accident on State Road 450 in Lawrence County early Sunday, January 12.

Cidney Morris, 22, allegedly provided misleading information to police after a white Ram 2500 pickup truck crashed into an electric pole around 1:00 a.m. on January 12, causing a power outage in the area. The vehicle was found approximately 100 feet off the roadway down an embankment.

According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Morris initially claimed she was alone in the vehicle during the crash. However, surveillance footage from a Bedford McDonald’s and employee testimony contradicted her statement.

Deputies found evidence at the scene, including tire tracks in the snow, suggesting an attempt to leave the scene, along with an open container in the driver’s door and a case of alcohol in the back seat.

The investigation is ongoing, and a warrant has been issued for the alleged driver’s arrest.

Morris was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
