INDIANA – LG has announced a recall of 500,000 electric ranges with front-mounted controls, citing a potential fire hazard due to the risk of accidental activation by humans or pets. The recall affects LG Slide-In Ranges and Freestanding Ranges that feature front-mounted knobs, which can be unintentionally turned on.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there have been at least 86 reports of unintentional activation of these knobs, which have been linked to over 28 fires. These fires have caused significant property damage, including five incidents resulting in more than $340,000 in damages. In addition to property damage, the CPSC reported at least eight minor injuries, including burns, as well as three incidents involving the deaths of pets in fires.
To address this issue, LG is offering affected consumers a free warning label, along with instructions on where to place the label on the range. The label reminds users to activate the Lock Out/Control Lock function on the control panel when the range is not in use, which disables the heating elements and prevents accidental activation.
The affected ranges were sold at major retailers including Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and online at LG.com. Depending on the model, the ranges were sold from 2015 through January 2025, with prices ranging from $1,400 to $2,650.
Consumers who own these ranges are encouraged to contact LG for a free warning label and to follow the provided instructions to help prevent any further incidents.
