FARMERSBURG – A Northeast School Corporation bus driver in Farmersburg faces felony charges after allegedly operating a school bus while intoxicated Wednesday morning with students on board.
Ryan Campbell was arrested after a staff member detected what she believed to be alcohol while retrieving an item from Bus #2 around 7:49 a.m. The staff member immediately alerted school officials, according to Northeast School Corporation Police Department Chief Matthew Price.

“When I got on the bus, I noticed Mr. Campbell had general indicators of intoxication,” Price said. Campbell failed a field sobriety test, and subsequent chemical testing revealed his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit of .08%.
Students still on the bus at the time were safely transferred to another vehicle.
The Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing two Level 6 felony charges of neglect of a dependent and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with passengers under the age of 18.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
