Driver lands in jail after troopers stop him driving erratically

HUNTINGBURG — A 39-year-old Jasper man was arrested early Monday morning, February 10th, on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and drug charges after a traffic stop on State Road 64 in the Huntingburg area.

The incident unfolded as Indiana State Police Trooper Teresa Vaal and Trooper Levi Hupp were patrolling the area and observed a pickup truck driver driving erratically.

The officers witnessed the truck pulling out in front of them and then repeatedly driving left of center, a violation that prompted them to initiate a traffic stop. The pickup driver pulled into a gas station, where Trooper Hupp contacted him. The driver, Wilfredo Serrano, showed visible signs of impairment.

Serrano was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for a chemical test, which confirmed he was intoxicated. Following the test, Serrano was arrested and taken to the Dubois County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of a legend drug, a Level 6 felony.

The arrest was made by Trooper Teresa Vaal and Trooper Levi Hupp, with assistance from Trooper Nathaniel Kern and the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
