Man arrested after altercation with another male at his apartment

MITCHELL – Warner Daniel Beauregard, 49, of Mitchell, was arrested on Monday, February 10, and charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, following a reported altercation at his apartment.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Mitchell Police Officer Garrett Jacobs, officers responded to a call regarding a verbal domestic dispute at an apartment on West Brooke Street. Officer Cody Blackwell initially made contact with Beauregard and another male at the scene.

Beauregard, who was the initial caller, told officers that the other male had attempted to throw his phone in the toilet. The other male gave a similar account of the events leading up to the incident, which stemmed from a disagreement about payment of the electric bill. Officer Blackwell noted that the male had several fresh scrapes on his elbow, knee, and thumb, which he photographed. He also showed Officer Blackwell where Beauregard had allegedly pushed him against a wall.

Officer Jacobs arrived on the scene and took over the investigation. The male informed Officer Jacobs that he wished to press charges against Beauregard. During a lethality screening, Officer Jacobs learned that Beauregard had allegedly attempted to cut off the male breathing in the past, a factor considered to indicate a high-risk environment. The male confirmed he had previously discussed these issues with Serenity Now in Bedford.

The male expressed concern for Beauregard’s mental health and his anger issues. He stated that he did not want Beauregard to be excessively punished but rather to receive appropriate mental health care.

After obtaining the statement, Officer Jacobs informed Beauregard he was under arrest. Beauregard was handcuffed and transported to the Lawrence County Jail by Officer McMillen.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
