MITCHELL – A woman was arrested after Mitchell Police officers responded to a complaint of a woman walking around Persimmon Park Apartments wielding a machete.
Police arrested 44-year-old Kesha A. Blevins, of Mitchell, on Wednesday, February 12, on charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Sergeant Jacob Kuhlman of the Mitchell Police Department, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Kuhlman and Officer McMillen responded to the scene and located a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado truck parked in front of apartment unit #12. They found Blevins seated in the backseat.
During their interaction, Blevins claimed she was “stuck” at the location because of a dispute with another apartment resident. She also indicated that she was living in the vehicle. After informing Blevins about the report of a woman with a machete, officers questioned her about any weapons in the vehicle. Blevins admitted to possessing a “survival tool.”
When asked for consent to search the vehicle for narcotics or other contraband, Blevins agreed, stating she “did not care.”
During the search, a small black box was found in the front passenger side of the truck. Blevins identified the box as her “happy safe box,” inside, officers discovered a plastic baggie containing a white, crystalized substance. A presumptive field test confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine.
Blevins was arrested, handcuffed, and transported to the Lawrence County Security Center.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
