

Billy Joe McDonald, 80, of Bedford, passed away at 10:45 am on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Cedar Creek.
Born January 4, 1945, he was the son of Mary Ellen (Fordice) McDonald Kern. He was married to Tomiko Teruya for over 50 years and she preceded him in death. He had worked in manufacturing for the Dana Corporation and was a veteran of the U.S. Army receiving a bronze star and a Purple Heart for being wounded in Vietnam.
Survivors include two sisters, Patty Bex (Bob) and Nancy Kern, all of Bedford; a brother, Kenneth Kern, of Bedford; a niece, Angie Turner, of Springville; uncle, Claude and aunt, Sarah Kern, of Bedford; aunts, Gladys, of OK and Elizabeth of Columbus, IN; great-nieces and nephews, Ashley and Taylor Chase, Lauren (Evan) Hillenburg, and Garrett Turner and fiancé, Emily; great-great-nieces and nephews, Mason and Elsie Hillenburg, Emmett and Elliott Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a nephew, Matt Turner, and a brother-in-law, Tim Turner.
A committal service is planned at a later date in Green Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
