BLUE LAKE – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal snowmobile accident that occurred on Blue Lake at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Friday.
The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department dispatched responders to the scene around 12:20 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious snowmobile accident with injuries.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Robert Baker, 44, and a juvenile passenger were traveling on a snowmobile when they crashed into the brush along the shoreline. Both occupants were ejected from the snowmobile as a result of the collision.
Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, both Baker and the juvenile passenger were pronounced dead.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Assisting agencies at the scene included the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, the Churubusco Police Department, the Smith Township Fire Department, the Indiana State Police, and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.
