Sellersburg man airlifted after two-vehicle crash on State Road 60

SALEM– A two-vehicle accident on State Road 60 in Salem Monday afternoon resulted in one driver being airlifted to the hospital.

At approximately 4:32 p.m. on February 17th, emergency services responded to State Road 60 East and Aurora Drive intersection following the collision.

Deputies arriving at the scene found a white 2019 Ford Transit stationary in the eastbound lane of State Road 60, its left front corner pinned against the right rear side of a white 2015 Ford F-650 rollback tow truck. The driver of the Ford Transit was trapped inside the vehicle, unable to free the lower half of his body.

The driver of the Ford Transit was identified as 48-year-old Jared Roman of Sellersburg, Indiana, and the driver of the Ford F-650 as 48-year-old Jermaine Franklin of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Preliminary investigation, including driver statements and evidence at the scene, suggests that Roman was traveling eastbound on State Road 60. At the same time, Franklin was stopped in the eastbound lane, waiting to turn left onto Aurora Drive. Evidence indicates that Roman failed to slow down and collided with the rear of Franklin’s tow truck.

Roman was extricated from his vehicle by the Salem Fire Department and transported by Air Methods KY-7 to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Franklin declined medical treatment at the scene.

Deputy Seth Goode is the lead investigator for the accident, and was assisted by Deputy Hailee Lopotosky, members of the Salem Police Department, the Salem Fire Department, and the Washington County Ambulance Service.

The crash remains under investigation.
