
GREENE CO. – A body was recovered from icy waters in eastern Greene County on Saturday.
On Saturday at approximately 10:38 a.m., Indiana Conservation Officers were contacted by the Greene County Sherrif’s Department Dispatch and advised of a possible person in the water near the 8900 block of Sassafras Road in Bloomfield after footprints were found leading to a hole in the ice.
Eastern Greene Fire Territory and authorities responded. Eastern Greene Fire Territory located a cell phone on the top of the ice using an unmanned. They discovered a hole in the ice and used a drone to search the area. The drone located evidence indicating a victim was still in the water.


The Eastern Greene Fire Territory assisted Indiana Conservation Officers with personnel and equipment in the recovery effort. At 1:17 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officer divers recovered the body of Louis W. White, 83, from 14 feet of water.

Assisting agencies include the Eastern Greene Fire Territory, Greene County Sherriff’s Department, Greene County Emergency Medical Services, and the Greene County Coroner’s Office.
