Two inmates arrested in connection to trafficking investigation at Jackson County Jail

BROWNSTOWN – Two inmates at the Jackson County Jail have been arrested on new charges following an investigation that also led to the arrest of a contract employee earlier this year.

Dawson G. Gravett, 26, of North Vernon, has been charged with trafficking an inmate, a Class A misdemeanor. Jordan M. Hensley, 39, of Scottsburg, faces charges of dealing in a Schedule I controlled substance, a Level 5 felony, and possession of a cellphone or device while incarcerated, a Class A misdemeanor.

These arrests follow the January 29th arrest of Ann M. Sebastian, 54, of Crothersville, who was charged with two counts of Level 5 felony trafficking with an inmate, a Level 5 felony charge of sexual misconduct with an inmate, and a Class A misdemeanor charge of trafficking with an inmate. Sebastian’s trial is scheduled for July 8th in Jackson Circuit Court.

Sebastian’s arrest came after the sheriff’s department received a tip about her alleged trafficking with inmates. An investigation, which included video surveillance and statements, revealed that Sebastian was attempting to smuggle contraband into the jail and pass it on to inmates. The investigation also indicated that Sebastian had sexual contact with an inmate.

At the time of his new arrest, Gravett was being held on a Level 2 felony charge of dealing methamphetamine and was awaiting sentencing. He had also previously pleaded guilty to a separate trafficking with an inmate charge. Hensley was serving a sentence for possession of methamphetamine and being a habitual offender when he was arrested on the new charges.

Investigators say additional arrests may be possible.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
