BEDFORD—More than 150 walkers gathered at First Christian Church on Saturday evening for Bedford’s Coldest Night of the Year 5K and 1-mile walk, supporting the Men’s Warming Shelter. The annual event raises awareness and funds for the shelter, which provides food, shelter, and support for those experiencing homelessness.

“Of course, the goal for a fundraiser is money,” said Heather Flynn, executive director of the Men’s Warming Shelter. “But the most important thing is so many people from all walks of life walking together to support the homeless in our community.”

Following the walk, participants warmed up with a soup supper inside the church, reflecting on the community’s generosity. While final totals are still being calculated, the shelter expressed gratitude for the many sponsors and donations that made the event a success.

The shelter operated 24/7 throughout January and most of February, incurring extra costs. Donations to the Coldest Night of the Year will help cover these expenses. Those who wish to contribute can still donate online at cnoy.com/bedford or mail donations to PO Box 430, Bedford, IN 47421.

The “Coldest Night of the Year” is an annual, family-friendly event held nationwide to support local charities addressing homelessness and hunger.
