Michael Allbright repeats as 2025 WBIW Lawrence County Elementary Level Spelling Bee Champion

BEDFORD— Eight of Lawrence County’s top elementary school spellers competed Monday night in the 2025 WBIW Lawrence County Elementary Level Spelling Bee, with Michael Allbright, a fifth grader from St. Vincent De Paul, emerging as champion.

From L to R: Lucy Felts-3rd place finisher, Julian Ogburn – 2nd place finisher, and Champion Michael Albright

Allbright secured the title after correctly spelling “vein” following runner-up Julian Ogburn’s misspelling of “lavender.” Ogburn, a fourth grader at Needmore Elementary, finished second, while Lucy Felts, a fourth grader from Shawswick Elementary, placed third.

The competition featured champions from their respective elementary schools, all vying for the chance to advance to tonight’s final round, where they will compete against the 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade school champions to determine the Grand Champion.

The 2025 WBIW Lawrence County Spelling Bee continues tonight, February 25, at the Schafer Auditorium at Bedford Middle School. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

WBIW congratulates all participants for their hard work, dedication, and impressive spelling skills. Their commitment to academic excellence was on full display, and each competitor proudly represented their school.
