

Janet Sue “Jan” Connell, age 83, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 3, 2025, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Connell was affiliated with Brownstown Christian Church, and she loved assisting with the youth group at the church. She was the owner of Change & Rearrange Upholstery, a business that reflected her passion for upholstery. Jan deeply cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them, and they, in turn, adored her.
In her younger years, Jan loved playing women’s softball for Marion Kay. She had a deep love for painting and was a talented artist. She also had a passion for sewing and enjoyed connecting with others, always eager to help. Volunteering at Muscatatuck Gold Teens was something she truly enjoyed, and she was actively involved as both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She also had a special fondness for hats, which she adored and collected with great passion.
Born on December 18, 1941, in Lawrence County, Jan was the daughter of Robert and Frances (Baker) Tyree, both of whom preceded her in death. On September 16, 1960, in Mitchell, she married Ivan Sidney “Sid” Connell, and he survives in Brownstown.
Survivors also include one son, Christopher (Denise) Connell of Vallonia; one daughter, Cindy (Carey) Lambring of Brownstown; six grandchildren: Chandler (Jessica) Lambring, Cassidy (Kyle) Wurtzburger, Carson Lambring, Cameron Connell, Maggie Connell, and Kate Connell; six great-grandchildren: Hudson Lambring, Lane Lambring, Jack Lambring, Nolan Wurtzburger, Nash Wurtzburger, and Navy Wurtzburger; brothers and sisters-in-law: John (Debbie) Tyree of Orleans, Jack (Kelly) Tyree of Mitchell, and Elaine Tyree of Tell City; sisters and brothers-in-law: Linda Pennington of Mitchell, Kay Leinart of Seymour, Judi (Richard) Parr of Seymour, and Jill (Andrew) Kluender of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Connell was also preceded in death by three brothers: Mike Tyree, Greg Tyree, and Jeff Tyree; sister in-law, Tina Tyree; and two brothers-in-law: Ned Pennington and James Leinart.
Funeral services for Janet Sue “Jan” Connell will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Chris Criminger officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Memorials may be given to the Special Olympics Indiana Jackson County or La-Or-Ma (Lawrence County, Orange County, Monroe County) Shrine Club in Bedford.
