
INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana Symphony Society has elected ten new members to their Board of Directors and announced three new trustees. Board members actively serve as goodwill ambassadors and significant contributors to the long-term success and sustainability of the orchestra. Directors have a passionate commitment to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, indicated by their regular attendance at ISO events and activities, their significant support in fundraising, and their personal financial contributions. A full term for a board member is three years.

The newest Board of Directors members include:
Andrew Cardimen
Andrew Cardimen is a Senior Vice President and Commercial Group Manager for Huntington Bank’s Indiana Region, headquartered in Indianapolis. Cardimen and his team work with existing and prospective Indiana-based companies having annual revenues up to $750 million, bringing all aspects of commercial and corporate banking to these organizations. Cardimen’s market focus encompasses diversified industries, including transportation/logistics, healthcare, manufacturing, business services, and distribution companies. Cardimen has over 35 years of diverse experience in the financial services industry. Over this time, he has served in several Commercial Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate Commercial banking leadership roles, with regional responsibilities in various markets including Indiana, Missouri, Florida, and Ohio.
Gustavo “Guga” Garavaglia
Gustavo Garavaglia has served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the AES US Utilities, which includes AES Indiana. Prior to rejoining AES, Mr. Garavaglia served as Chief Financial Officer of Vale Base Metals from April 2022 to April 2024. Prior to joining Vale, Mr. Garavaglia spent twelve years at AES, serving as Chief Financial Officer of the AES US Utilities from November 2018 to March 2022. Prior to that, Mr. Garavaglia held several other positions while at AES. Mr. Garavaglia received a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Campinas (Unicamp) and a master’s degree in Business from FGV Brazil, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Matthew M. Gardlik, Ph.D.
Matthew Gardlik is a chemist and patent attorney at Woodard, Emhardt, Henry, Reeves & Wagner LLP. His practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, as well as Intellectual Property Litigation. In addition to litigation matters, Matthew continues to be extensively involved in all aspects of patent prosecution, including preparation and prosecution in the chemical, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and medical device arts, among others. His prosecution experience includes not only practice with the USPTO, but also directing the work of foreign associates in patent offices around the world. He frequently assists in representing a large privately held medical device manufacturer in Indiana.
Laurie Gutmann
Laurie Gutmann is Chair of the Neurology Department and Co-Director of the Neuroscience Institute at Indiana University School of Medicine/IU Health. She grew up playing violin in orchestras and string quartets and has a great love of music, both as an art form and for promoting a sense of well-being. She grew up in West Virginia, received her BA from Oberlin College, and did her medical training at West Virginia University and the University of Virginia. She moved to Indianapolis in 2020 and soon became enthralled by the talent and diverse offerings of the ISO. Her leadership in multiple national organizations both past and present will complement her active participation on the ISO Board. Laurie feels that the ISO is integral to the Indianapolis community and its health, and a treasure for all. She looks forward to helping with the board’s mission.
Justin Hayes
Justin Hayes is a partner in KSM’s Audit & Assurance Services Group and the leader of the firm’s Not-for-Profit and Governmental Services Groups. Justin works with his clients to help ensure accurate financial reporting and advises them on ways to improve their reporting and internal controls to provide maximum performance and efficiency. He has experience in a number of industries; however, his main areas of focus are not-for-profit, state and local government, and professional services.Justin is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS), the Institute of Management Accountants, the Association of Government Accountants, and the Government Finance Officers Association. He is also a member of the Ball State University Accounting Advisory Council and serves as a Miller Mentor for the Miller College of Business at Ball State. Additionally, Justin serves as the treasurer on the board of directors and finance committee for Second Helpings Inc. He is a graduate of Opportunity Indianapolis 2010 and Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) 2011 with Leadership Indianapolis (formerly Lacy Leadership Association). Justin was selected as one of 25 individuals to participate in Class XLVIII of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series, which expands the ranks of community leaders by teaching and motivating members to address the needs of central Indiana.
Deborah Johnson
Deborah is a senior Human Resources executive who is passionate about helping others. Her HR career has spanned multiple industries and leadership positions in fast-paced, global environments where she guides individuals and organizations to achieve their best results. She currently serves as the Chief People Officer for Guardian Care, an organization that assists families in providing care for their medically complex children and adults. Deborah enjoys her work on various non-profit boards, including Prevail, Inc., Children’s TherAplay, The O’Connor House, and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.
Shelly Langona
Shelly Langona is the CEO + President for RJE Business Interiors. With more than a decade of leadership experience in the workplace solutions industry, Shelly uses her energy, passion and determined resolve to shape incredible experiences for her customers. In addition to her focus on the betterment of the business, Shelly also spends much time outside of RJE supporting the betterment of Indiana. Throughout her career, Shelly has sat on many boards and committees for many organizations, like United Way of Central Indiana, Indiana State University, Dress for Success, Marian University Byrum School of Business, Child Advocates, Indiana School of the Blind, Executive Women in Healthcare, and Executive Women’s Group.
Jennifer Mentink
Jennifer J. Mentink is a dynamic leader with extensive experience in branding, marketing, event planning, and community engagement. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Merchandising & Marketing from Ball State University and an MBA from Anderson University. As the Manager of Branding & Corporate Engagement at Citizens Energy Group, Jennifer oversees media-related brand strategy, community outreach, and company-wide advertising. She is recognized for her ability to manage large-scale events and lead employee volunteer initiatives that significantly enhance both employee engagement and community impact. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Jennifer is deeply committed to community service. She actively participates in the Citizens Neighborhood Ambassador Program and serves on the boards of the Martindale Brightwood Community Development Corporation (Secretary), Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre (Vice Chair), and Citizens Investment Collaboration on Neighborhoods (Secretary). Jennifer’s dedication to her work and her community is evident through her numerous accomplishments and ongoing volunteer efforts. She continues to make a significant impact both within her organization and in the broader community.
Jeff Reider
Jeff is a retired Eli Lilly and Company business leader with 34 years of experience in various finance, international operations, and information technology roles. Jeff spent over a decade overseas with Eli Lilly and was instrumental in establishing Eli Lilly’s global financial service centers. Jeff retired from Eli Lilly in December 2017. Jeff was raised in southeastern Pennsylvania, and received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bucknell University. After working for several years in sales, Jeff went back to school to earn an MBA from Duke University. From Duke, Jeff relocated to Indianapolis to start his career with Eli Lilly. Jeff is enjoying retirement and spends time traveling and ownership responsibilities for a restaurant purchased in 2017. He lives in Indianapolis with his husband, Brad.
Yecenia Tostado
Yecenia Tostado serves as a Senior Program Officer at the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, where she oversees impactful grantmaking initiatives that address critical community needs and foster positive change. With extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, community development, and philanthropy, Tostado has dedicated her career to empowering individuals and strengthening communities. Her strategic approach to philanthropy and her commitment to equity and inclusion have made her a trusted leader and advocate for meaningful progress.
The newest members of the Board of Trustees include Jim Zink, Bob Kaspar, and Craig Fenneman.
About the Indiana Symphony Society
The Indiana Symphony Society Board of Directors is the governing body of the Society. The fiduciary responsibilities of the board include providing oversight and financial management of the organization through review, approval and monitoring of the annual budget and audited financial reports of the Society. In addition, the board selects and evaluates the performance of the Society’s Chief Executive Officer. As a policy-making body, the board participates with Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra stakeholders in strategic and organizational planning, including defining the institutional mission of the ISO, which is currently “to inspire, entertain, educate, and challenge through innovative programs and symphonic music performed at the highest level.”
