BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested on Wednesday, March 5, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after having a blood-alcohol content more than two times over the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Officer Taylor Daugherty of the Bedford Police Department, Lakeylah K. Eads, 22, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI Endangerment, and OWI with a blood alcohol content over 0.15 percent.
At approximately 11:37 p.m., Officer Daugherty observed a gray 2021 Nissan Sentra turn south onto State Road 37 from John Williams Boulevard with an inoperable license plate light. The vehicle driver was also unable to maintain her lane of travel.
Officer Daugherty initiated a traffic stop at State Road 37 and 16th Street. Upon contacting Eads, the driver, and her passenger, Officer Daugherty detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle.
Eads initially denied consuming any alcohol, stating she was picking up her friend from a bar. However, she later admitted to having one beer. Officer Daugherty observed that her eyes were red and glossy, and her speech was slurred.
Eads agreed to perform field sobriety tests. Officer Daugherty reported observing several signs of impairment during these tests.
A preliminary breath test yielded a blood-alcohol content of 0.197. Eads was then placed under arrest and transported to the Bedford Police Department for a certified chemical breath test, which resulted in a blood-alcohol content of 0.179 g/210L at 12:27 a.m. on March 6, more than twice the legal limit.
Eads was then transported to the Lawrence County Jail for housing.
The friend arranged for another friend to pick her up and the vehicle from the scene.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
