MITCHELL– A Mitchell teenager was arrested early Sunday morning following an alleged domestic battery incident at a residence on Dale Street.
According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by Officer Garrett Jacobs of the Mitchell Police Department, Landan Russell, 18, was taken into custody on two counts of battery resulting in bodily injury, both Class A misdemeanors.

The incident occurred on March 9, at approximately 12:24 a.m. Officers were dispatched to 340 Dale Street in response to a report of a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, Officer Jacobs learned that Officer Blackwell had already detained Russell. The affidavit states that two individuals reported being injured during the altercation and requested medical evaluation by EMS.
According to statements, the incident began when Russell was asked to leave the residence. One victim stated that Russell allegedly kicked in the front door after being told to go twice, striking her as she attempted to close and lock the door.
A male witness told police that Russell had kicked in the door and then proceeded to punch a 16-year-old male in the face and head. The witness stated that a female victim’s arm was injured when the door was kicked in.
The teen alleged that Russell called him derogatory names and challenged him to a fight. Then, Russell began punching him. The male witness intervened and told Russell to leave. Russell then allegedly kicked in the door, striking the female before fleeing the scene.
Following the investigation, the male witness requested that Russell be trespassed from the property.
Russell was transported to the Lawrence County Jail and booked at approximately 2:00 a.m. on two counts of battery.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
