SHOALS – Shoals has secured a $26,500 grant from Regional Opportunity Initiatives (ROI) to establish public internet hotspots, addressing the digital divide for underserved residents. The town, which will contribute $5,500, will partner with the Hoosier Community Network (HCN) from Indiana University to implement the project.

Led by Shoals Town Council President Cary D. Albright and Dr. Keith Dayton, the initiative aims to provide Internet access to students and seniors facing financial barriers. With the initial installation at Bo-Mac’s, IU graduate students are mapping the town to determine optimal hotspot locations. Future installations will ensure coverage across Shoals.
“The program…is a groundbreaking initiative for a town of our size,” said Albright, emphasizing the goal of providing internet access to those previously without. The collaboration with IU made the project affordable. Albright expressed gratitude to ROI for their support.
