BEDFORD — A Bedford man was arrested on multiple drug charges after a search by Indiana State Police led to the discovery of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at his residence.
Dennis C. Ashley, 40, who lives on Erie Church Road, was taken into custody on Saturday, March 8, by Indiana State Police Troopers. He was wanted on two warrants, one out of Lawrence County for failure to appear on a charge of possession of methamphetamine and another out of Monroe County for failure to appear on a charge of dealing methamphetamine.

Trooper Ben Burris and Trooper Jesse Crane arrived at Ashley’s residence, where they were informed by a female at the property, identified as Ashley’s mother, that Ashley lived in a camper behind the house but also spent time at an apartment in Bedford.
As the officers spoke with the woman, they observed a person running toward the camper and entering it, quickly closing the door behind them. The officers made several announcements for the individual to come out, then entered the camper. Inside, they found Ashley hiding under a mattress.
During the arrest, a smoking device containing burnt plant residue and a metal grinder were located near the mattress. In a post-Miranda interview, Ashley admitted that the items belonged to him.
The plant residue found in the smoking device field-tested positive for marijuana, leading to Ashley being charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
Ashley was transported to the Lawrence County Security Center, where he was jailed. The warrants for his failure to appear were also confirmed.
Anyone with information regarding illegal activity is encouraged to contact local authorities.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
