U.S. Department of Education announces major workforce reduction

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Education is undergoing a significant workforce reduction, with nearly 50% of its staff being cut. This move comes as President Trump has proposed eliminating the agency.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon

“Today’s reduction in force reflects the Department of Education’s commitment to efficiency, accountability, and ensuring that resources are directed where they matter most: to students, parents, and teachers,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said in a statement released on Tuesday.

Despite the substantial cuts, senior officials have assured that federal student aid will not be affected. However, experts have raised concerns about the agency’s ability to fulfill its duties with a diminished workforce.

Reports indicate that White House officials have prepared an executive order instructing Secretary McMahon to initiate the process of dismantling the department.

These cuts are part of a broader effort by the Trump and Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency to reduce the size of the federal government, with similar layoffs occurring at other agencies.
