ORLEANS- Orleans town officials have written an open letter to residents encouraging participation in “Clean Sweep Week” in anticipation of the 55th Dogwood Festival.
The letter reads as follows:
Dear Orleans Residents:
The time for our annual Orleans Dogwood Festival will soon again be upon us, and our thoughts to spring and all its beautiful offerings. This year will mark the 55th anniversary of the celebration of the blooming of the Dogwood here in Orleans.
This year we are once again spotlighting the place many of us love to simply call “Home” and we would like to take this opportunity to encourage all the citizens of Orleans to show their community spirit in a very tangible way by making more attractive his or her very own corner of our hometown. What better time to clean up and manicure lawns, plant a dogwood tree, fix up homes, outbuildings and beautify your property than this lovely season! Likewise, merchants and business owners are also urged to contribute to the efforts by sprucing up storefronts, signage, flags, and windows.
The Orleans Town Officials has officially proclaimed March 24-29 “Town-Wide Spring Clean Sweep Week” launching this year’s community campaign to clean-up, paint-up, spruce-up and fix-up yards, homes, and other properties so that visitors can view Orleans at its very best, and all the town’s citizens can enjoy its natural beauty.
Both the Orleans Chamber of Commerce and the Dogwood Festival Committee are also supporting and actively participating in this “Clean Sweep” effort and are urging everyone to do their part as well to spruce things up not just only for the upcoming festival but year-round as well.
We do not want the image of visitors and potential new businesses coming to the local area to be a negative one. This is an economic issue! People will not want to move here, establish businesses here, or even visit if Orleans and the surrounding area is unattractive. So…come one come all, youth groups, service groups, businesspeople, families, and churches and help us make a “Clean Sweep.”
The Orleans town crew will be picking up limbs, trash and items of discard and a large dumpster will also be placed at the town garage this week for use by Orleans residents who are encouraged to bring their items of discard for disposal. For pickup or more information, call the Town Office at 812-865-2539 or visit www.town.orleans.in.us
With all of us pulling together in the spirit of spring and our own community, we can show off our hometown in all its unique beauty and friendliness. Can we count on you this year? Please help us continue to make our “Dogwood Capital of Indiana” a truly beautiful place for us to reside and a memorable experience for our visitor friends.
Let’s make this year’s 55th annual “Orleans Homecoming” the very best ever!
Sincerely,
Robert F. Henderson, Jr., Exec. Director Orleans Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
Thomas Lamb, Board Chair Orleans Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
John H. Lindley, President Orleans Town Council
