DEKALB CO. – A Dekalb County Deputy is in jail after an investigation found probable cause that he committed a rape.
In February 2025, Indiana State Police Ft. Wayne Post Detective Andrew Mills began an investigation into the allegation of rape against Zachary Kerley, 29 of Huntertown.

This investigation began at the request of Whitley County Prosecuting Attorney D.J. Sigler, the Special Prosecutor assigned to this case. Kerley is a Deputy with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and serves as a School Resource Officer (SRO) for Garrett High School. These allegations are not the result of or related to his duties as SRO.
As a result of this investigation, probable cause was found to support the allegation that Kerley committed the act of rape against an adult female victim in September 2024. Charges were filed in Dekalb Superior Court on March 14, 2025. Kerley turned himself in at the Dekalb County Jail at approximately 11:50 a.m. on March 14, 2025.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
