Indiana State Police announces promotion of Sergeant Brock Werne to lieutenant

JASPER— Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott announced today that Sergeant Brock J. Werne has been promoted to Lieutenant. In his new role, Lieutenant Werne will serve as the Jasper District Commander.

Lieutenant Werne has been a dedicated member of the Jasper Post for the last 17 years. His promotion follows a rigorous selection process, including a comprehensive written exam, an oral interview, and an extensive evaluation of his overall job performance.

Lieutenant Werne is a native of Jasper, Indiana, and a graduate of Jasper High School in 2002. Lieutenant Werne earned an associate degree in Conservation Law from Vincennes University before attending Indiana State University, where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology. Lieutenant Werne graduated from the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy as a member of the 67th Academy in 2007. He was assigned to the Jasper District, where he patrolled Crawford and Dubois Counties.

In 2017, Lieutenant Werne was promoted to Detective, specializing in homicide, cybercrime, and missing person investigations. By 2020, he was promoted to Investigative Squad Leader for the Jasper Post, overseeing detectives and criminal cases across seven counties.

Throughout his career, Lieutenant Werne has served as a Field Training Officer, Standardized Field Sobriety Test Instructor, and a member of the Indiana State Police Honor Guard. His dedication has been recognized with several awards, including the Life Award in 2010 and 2011 for leading the Jasper District in impaired driving arrests. In 2016, he received the Department’s Lifesaving Award for his efforts in preventing a suicide.

Lieutenant Werne and his wife, Jessica, reside in Dubois County with their children.
