BEDFORD – After sending competitors In five events to the IHSAA regional during last year’s postseason, Bedford North Lawrence has the numbers and athletes to multiply that total.

The Stars, with young talent returning at key spots on the growing roster, will count on contributions from veterans and possible splashes from newcomers during the 2025 season.

”We have a lot of new faces, and a lot of returners,” BNL coach Jason Webb said. “This is a good group.”

BNL will build around its postseason success, starting with sophomore Paige Voigtschild, who won a sectional championship in the 800-meter race last season and finished seventh in the regional. She’s also coming off a strong cross country campaign that concluded with her appearance in the state finals.

”Paige had a real good cross country season,” Webb said. “So we’re looking forward to some good stuff from her.”

BNL senior Trinity Schmeichel was a regional qualifier in the 300 hurdles.

BNL’s other returning regional qualifiers include senior Trinity Schmeichel (who was second in the sectional in the 300 hurdles) and sophomore Elise Williams (a member of two qualifying relays).

“I’m really excited to see what Elise does in races like the 400 and 800,” Webb said. “And our relays which included Gracie Simmermand and Rose Dusard) were pretty solid.”

Webb is also expecting improvement from sophomore Madalyn Mason (fourth in the sectional in the shot put, missing the regional by 1 1/2 inches), plus throwers Harryson Hayes and Macey Lambrecht.

New faces will vie for other spots.

”I’m interested to see what Kinleigh Root (a standout on the golf course) does,” Webb said. “She’s tried the long jump and different things in sprints. “

BNL will open the season on April 3, hosting Barr-Reeve, Orleans and Mitchell.
