BEDFORD– Following a jury trial on February 11, 2025, Anthony R. Henson was found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

Chief Deputy Joshua Scherschel represented the State of Indiana, while Attorney Joseph Lozano represented Henson.
The Lawrence County Probation Department conducted a presentence investigation, and a sentencing hearing was held before the Honorable Robert Cline. Prosecutor Samuel C. Arp II represented the State of Indiana at the sentencing hearing.

The State of Indiana argued for the maximum sentence of 12 years, citing Indiana law and presenting three aggravating circumstances for the court’s consideration. Prosecutor Arp argued that Henson had committed a crime of violence as defined by Indiana law, had an extensive criminal history, and had a long history of violating probation or parole.

In determining Henson’s sentence, Judge Cline accepted the three aggravating circumstances cited by Prosecutor Arp and found one mitigating circumstance. Judge Cline acknowledged the hardship of Henson having a young child but stated that, given the nature of the crime and his lengthy criminal history, the mitigating circumstance was not assigned much weight for sentencing purposes.
After hearing evidence and arguments from both sides, Judge Cline sentenced Henson to 4,350 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
