Shooting incident on Interstate 65 leads to arrest in White County

WHITE CO. – On Monday, March 17, just before 10:00 p.m., Indiana State Police Region 1 Dispatch received a 911 call reporting that a vehicle had been shot at while traveling southbound on Interstate 65 near the 193-mile marker. The caller provided dispatchers with a description of the suspect vehicle.

Troopers McKinney and Wiley responded to the area and located a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox traveling southbound on Interstate 65 that matched the description provided. The troopers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and safely removed all occupants.

Detectives from the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. During the course of their investigation, detectives located a firearm inside the Chevrolet, which was later determined to be stolen. Further investigation revealed that the driver of the Chevrolet, George Collins, allegedly fired at least one shot at the victims vehicle. The victim’s vehicle had what appeared to be a bullet hole in the windshield. No one was injured during this incident.

Collins was taken into custody and transported to the White County Jail on felony charges of criminal recklessness with a firearm, possession of stolen property and pointing a firearm

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges listed are preliminary and may change as the investigation continues. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the White County Prosecutor’s Office for further review and potential additional charges.
