Obituary: James ‘Jim’ A. Veen Jr.

January 28, 1961 – March 18, 2025

James ‘Jim’ A. Veen Jr., 64, of Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital.

Born January 28, 1961, in Cook County, Illinois.  He married Karen Bridges on May 18, 1984, and she survives.

Jim had many jobs over the years: he was a mechanic, trimmed trees, landscaped, and enjoyed working for Goodwill.  But he also was a roadie for REO Speedwagon, performed as a studio musician at the Grand Ole Opry, and even performed at Carnegie Hall.  Jim was a member of the South Central Association of the Visually Impaired.  He attended Woodville Baptist Church.

His wife, Karen Veen of Mitchell, daughter, Courtney Veen of Bedford, and grandchildren, Alexis Deflinger of Bedford, Hunter Mason of Bedford, and Colton Mason of Bedford, survive.

The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 24, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, with Steve Dorsett officiating. Cremation will follow, and the body will be buried in Clark Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
