Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Buher

May 27, 2025 – March 17, 2025

Mary Elizabeth Buher, 82, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Bell Trace Health and Living Center.

Mary was born May 27, 1942, in Popcorn, Indiana, the daughter of the late John Kit and Lola Lois (Strauser) Carson. She graduated from Oolitic High School in 1960 and later attended Indiana University and Ivy Tech. She worked at Crane Naval Base, Bloomington Hospital, Kansas State Farm Bureau, Indiana University, and Monroe County Community School Corporation from 1986 until 2005 and then at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard from 2013 until her health didn’t permit it.

Mary was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, the Monroe County Fall Festival Association, the Food Bank Board, and Stephen Minister.

Her greatest joy was being a homemaker and mom. She married William Ray Buher on May 7, 1961, and he preceded her in death on November 27, 2012. Bill and Mary had two boys who were the joy of their lives: Michael Ray and Julia Carole (Jacob) Buher of Bel Air, Maryland, and Bradley William and Lita Karyl (Fuller) Buher of Macon, Georgia.

They were also proud of the lives and accomplishments of their five grandchildren, Jacob William, Zachary Keith, Madison Rae, Brady Kyle, and Rayna Drew.

Mary is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James Howard Buher, and his wife, Rebecca Ann, along with nieces Melynda Buher, Jennifer Buher, and Karen Moore.

Preceding Mary in death were her parents; husband, Bill; brother, Robert Carson and his wife Nellie Carson; Mary Frances (Buher) Parsley Wrightsman and her husband Orville Wrightsman; nieces and nephews, Jack Parsley, Tom Parsley, Kathy Ward, and Eugene Parsley.

Visitation for Mary will be on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 5 p.m. until 7 pm at The Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Owensburg Cemetery, 11688 E. Wilson Ct., Springville, IN.
