Applications open for 2025 Bloomington Police Department Teen Academy

BLOOMINGTON- Applications for the 2025 BPD Teen Academy are now open. This program is designed to introduce teens aged 13-17 to law enforcement in general and specifically the Bloomington Police Department. Each day will run from 8 am – 5 pm at the Public Safety Training Facility at 3230 S Walnut St. The academy will be based on lectures, demonstrations, and interactive events designed to entertain, engage, and instruct teenagers.

The course will be taught by a number of officers ranging in age and experience from senior officers with over 25 years of experience to brand-new officers who have just completed training. The course will be limited to 50 students. The cost for the Teen Academy is $50.00 (scholarships are available).

Topics covered during teen academy include traffic stops, CIRT, detectives/special investigations, K9 police work, building clearing techniques, and more. Teens can expect to perform physical fitness tests each morning and enjoy team-building exercises in between instructions. Lunch is provided daily.
