Indiana National Guard prepares for second border deployment

INDIANA– The Indiana National Guard is set to deploy personnel to the U.S.-Mexico border for a second time, following a previous ten-month mission that concluded in February. The upcoming deployment, expected to last a year, is estimated to cost approximately $9 million.

The Guard’s return to the border comes after a request from Texas Governor Gregg Abbott, similar to the deployment that ended earlier this year. Indiana National Guard members assisted with border security operations during their previous mission.

According to Lauren Houck, the Indiana National Guard’s chief communications officer, the soldiers participating in this deployment are all volunteers. Houck also noted the high interest among Guard members, stating that they had to turn away volunteers due to the overwhelming response.

The Indiana National Guard’s deployment highlights the ongoing efforts to address border security concerns and the continued involvement of National Guard units from various states.
