MITCHELL – A Mitchell man was arrested after allegedly strangling and physically assaulting a female during a domestic fight on Saturday, March 22.

According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by the Mitchell Police Department, Kenney Snapp, 57, of Mitchell, was arrested and charged with strangulation, domestic battery with prior unrelated convictions, and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury.

According to the affidavit filed by Officer Cody Grogan, officers responded to the Mitchell Police Department after a female reported a domestic battery incident. She stated that Kenney Snapp had attacked her at approximately 10:00 a.m.

The woman reported that an argument over money turned physical, with Kenney Snapp allegedly hitting her multiple times in the back of the head while controlling her head by her hair. She also stated that Snapp used her hair to pull her chin to her chest, restricting her airflow, at which point she scratched him in self-defense.

Officer Grogan observed multiple injuries on the woman, including lumps on the back of her head, bruising around her left eye, scratches on her forehead and temple, and a bruise on her left forearm. She also reported pain and bruising under her right breast from a previous incident on Friday, March 21, where Snapp allegedly placed his knee on her. EMS evaluated the woman at the police department and recommended she seek further medical attention for possible rib fractures, which she declined.

The woman also informed officers that she had recently removed a protective order against Snapp from a prior domestic incident.

Officers then went to Kenney Snapp’s residence in the 300 block of East Frank Street, where he made a spontaneous utterance that the woman had caused her injuries and scratched him. Snapp had scratches on his hands, upper chest, neck, and head, which matched the woman’s account of defending herself.

Snapp claimed that the woman had initiated the altercation by throwing objects and scratching him and expressed his intent to file domestic battery charges against her.

Officers collected photographic evidence of the injuries sustained by both parties and body cam footage of the interaction with Snapp. Additional evidence included statements, lethality screening, domestic battery probable cause affidavits, and evidence checklists for both individuals.

Snapp was arrested and remanded to the Lawrence County Jail.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
