BEDFORD– A Bedford couple was arrested on drug charges after police responded to a report of a domestic dispute on Friday, March 21. The investigation leads police to find meth and drug paraphernalia.
Bedford Police Department officers arrested David L. Prepster, 50, and Amanda Johnson, 44, on charges of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.

According to the affidavit filed by Officer Bryce Bower, officers responded to a report of a physical domestic fight in progress in the 600 block of 17th Street at approximately 5:24 p.m. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Johnson, who stated there were no issues and that no one else was in the home. She consented to a protective sweep of the residence.
During the sweep, officers discovered a glass smoking device with crystal-like residue and a broken glass smoking device with a crystal-like substance in plain view in what the woman identified as Johnson’s and Prepster’s bedroom. Based on their training and experience, officers suspected the residue to be methamphetamine.
Officer Ratcliff spoke with Prepster at his workplace regarding the incident. Prepster stated that he had called 911 after seeing Johnson’s ex-boyfriend driving near their residence and that she had expressed fear after hearing a noise.
Johnson later admitted that she and Prepster lived together and that Prepster had called the police after seeing her ex-boyfriend in the area. She also stated that her ex had not come to the house and that she could not respond to Prepster’s texts because her phone battery was low.
Johnson was advised of her Miranda rights and admitted to speaking with officers. She denied knowledge of drug use in the bedroom. The items found in the bedroom were field tested, yielding a positive result for methamphetamine.
A search warrant for the residence was obtained and executed at 7:27 p.m. During the search, officers located several smoking devices with residue, a crystal-like substance, a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance, and a clear plastic container containing a crystal-like substance in the bedroom. Mail addressed to Prepster, including Johnson’s driver’s license and their marriage license, were also found in the bedroom.
The crystal-like substances and glass smoking device with residue all field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Johnson later admitted to officers that she and Prepster had been using methamphetamine recently.
Due to the living situation at the home, the Department of Child Services (DCS) was contacted.
Prepster and Johnson were transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
