BEDFORD—According to Bedford officials, construction on the highly anticipated roundabout project at the John Williams Boulevard and Beech Street intersection is set to begin on or after April 1st. The awarded prime contractor, Milestone Contractors, will commence roadwork after completing ongoing utility relocation.
Residents have likely observed the recent utility work at the intersection, which was necessary to prepare the site for the roundabout’s construction.
To minimize disruption, Milestone Contractors will undertake the project in phases, ensuring that two-way traffic remains operational on John Williams Boulevard throughout the construction period. During the first phase, traffic will be shifted to the north side of John Williams Boulevard, with one lane open in each direction. The second phase will shift traffic to the south side of John Williams Boulevard.
However, Beech Street and 8th Street will be closed at the intersection for the duration of the project. Access to 8th Street will be available via X Street, while access to Beech Street will be maintained through 16th Street. Contractors will ensure access to all homes and businesses within the construction zone. The project is scheduled for completion by October 31, 2025.
The postal service and emergency personnel have been notified of the planned closures. Residents anticipating deliveries are advised to inform the respective delivery services of the road closures.
Motorists are urged to avoid the intersection if possible and to exercise patience and caution when traveling through the construction area, being mindful of heavy equipment.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you in advance for your cooperation,” stated city officials.
