INDIANAPOLIS– Nature enthusiasts and bird lovers can now witness the daily lives of peregrine falcons nesting atop downtown Indianapolis’s Market Tower, thanks to a live camera feed installed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Following renovations to the nest box by the DNR ornithology team last year, which garnered attention through an Instagram video showcasing the biologists’ work, the focus has shifted to the falcons themselves. A live camera placed within the nest box is now streaming online, providing a real-time, unfiltered view of the birds as they nest and raise their young.
The DNR emphasizes a hands-off approach, allowing the falcons to thrive undisturbed in their natural habitat. However, viewers should be aware that, as wild animals, the falcons’ behavior may occasionally be unsettling to some.

Market Tower and the Amos Bulter Audubon Society sponsor the Peregrine Falcon Nest Box Camera. The Indiana DNR maintains the nest box. Depending on time and resources, the Indiana DNR may band peregrine falcon chicks to keep track of their movements and better understand their survival.
The live stream provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of these urban falcons. It allows viewers to witness their nesting activities, including egg-laying, hatching, and raising their chicks.
This initiative provides an educational opportunity for people of all ages to learn more about peregrine falcons and their role in the urban ecosystem.
