BLOOMINGTON— Get ready for a night of eco-conscious couture! The 16th Annual Trashion Refashion Runway Show, sponsored by Plato’s Closet, will dazzle audiences at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 7 p.m. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.

This unique event, a highlight of Bloomington’s arts scene since 2010, blends high fashion with environmental sustainability. Approximately 60 original, upcycled designs, created from at least 90% discarded materials, will be showcased by diverse community models.
“Trashion” designs utilize materials rescued from the waste stream, while “Refashion” pieces transform underutilized garments into stunning new creations. Past shows have featured creations made from unexpected items like pop can tabs, antique tablecloths, weedeater filament, and even a collapsed billboard.
The show aims to challenge traditional notions of beauty by celebrating diversity in its models, including various genders, ages, races, and body types.
This year’s runway show will be co-hosted by returning emcee Yaël Ksander and newcomer Cydni M. Robertson, Assistant Professor of Fashion Merchandising at Indiana University’s Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design.
“When I met Cydni and learned about her research, I couldn’t wait to invite her to join Trashion,” said Ksander. “I could see how closely her values and expertise aligned with the spirit of the show.”
Robertson added, “Sustainable fashion isn’t just about materials. It’s about protecting heritage, empowering communities, and reimagining the future of fashion with purpose.”
The Trashion Refashion Runway Show is a fundraising event for the Center for Sustainable Living (CSL), a local non-profit dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability through various community projects.
Tickets are available for $22 in advance, $24 at the door, and $14 for children/students. They can be purchased at the BCT box office or online.
The event is proudly sponsored by Plato’s Closet, Bikesmiths, Cook Medical, Hickory Audiology, Friends of Gail Kincaid, Rad Pad Remodeling, Alibi Boutique, Olympus Properties, University of Sewing, and Baker Family Dentistry.
