Dogwood Festival 5K Run/Walk to highlight new Monon Trail

ORLEANS—Celebrate the Dogwood Festival with a healthy start! The Dogwood Run/Walk 5K will take place on the newly completed Monon Trail, offering participants a scenic route through the heart of Orleans.

The event, scheduled to precede the Dogwood Festival parade on April 26th, will utilize the Monon Trail extension, which will be completed in 2024. Proceeds from the 5K will support festival awards and help offset event costs.

Organizers encourage community participation, inviting individuals, families, and local businesses to join the festivities.

“We are thrilled to showcase the new Monon Trail while celebrating our annual Dogwood Festival,” said Ashley McDonald, event coordinator. “This 5K is a great way to kick off the day and support our community.”

Registration for the 5K will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Monon South Trailhead, at the intersection of E Jefferson and S. Roosevelt Road in downtown Orleans. The entry fee is $20, with a $5 discount available for participants of the Tri Kappa 5K in March (contact Ashley McDonald for the discount code). Children 12 and under can register for $10.

This year’s 5K will award the top three male and female finishers in each age category. There will not be separate awards for runners and walkers. Organizers hope to include event t-shirts in future years.

Volunteers and businesses interested in setting up tents on race day are encouraged to contact Ashley McDonald at 812-653-0255.

The Dogwood Run/Walk 5K is made possible by the generous support of sponsors Radius Indiana, Inliner-Orleans, and Pro Tree Care.
