BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) and related charges following a traffic stop on Tuesday, March 25. Michael McVicker, 43, of Bedford, faces charges of OWI, OWI Endangerment, and OWI Per Se 0.08.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Bedford Police Officer Taylor Daugherty, the incident began when Officer Landon Jones observed a maroon Chevrolet Silverado, driven by McVicker, disregard a stop sign and commit several moving violations near the intersection of 28th Street and Mitchell Road at approximately 8:40 p.m. Officer Jones initiated a traffic stop at the Animal Care Clinic parking lot on Mitchell Road after observing McVicker’s vehicle cross the fog line and into the left lane multiple times.
Upon making contact with McVicker, Officer Jones noted that he smelled alcohol and that McVicker admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day. McVicker’s female passenger was reportedly upset and stated she had been drinking.
Officer Daugherty arrived to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which McVicker failed. A preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.099.
McVicker was then arrested and transported to the Bedford Police Department, where a certified chemical breath test yielded a blood-alcohol content of 0.094. He was subsequently transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
The female passenger was given a courtesy ride to Goodwill, and her vehicle was secured in the Animal Care Clinic parking lot. McVicker was taken into custody without incident.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
