BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Saturday, March 30, after allegedly attempting to enter vehicles in the CVS Pharmacy parking lot and later fleeing from officers at a hospital.
According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by Officer Sarah Haluda of the Bedford Police Department, officers responded to a call regarding a male attempting to enter vehicles at the CVS Pharmacy on 16th Street. The caller described the male, later identified as 33-year-old Chad Kling, as appearing intoxicated and carrying a bottle of alcohol.

Upon arrival, officers located Kling in the Walgreens parking lot, across the street from CVS, stumbling away from a parked pickup truck. Kling, who was holding a bottle of cranberry juice and a DIY stepping stone kit, exhibited signs of intoxication, including unsteady balance, slurred speech, and glassy, red eyes.
Witnesses reported seeing Kling approach and attempt to open a vehicle’s passenger door in the CVS drive-thru. A preliminary breath test revealed Kling’s blood alcohol content to be 0.258.
Kling was taken to IU Health Bedford for medical clearance due to his high level of intoxication. While at the hospital, Kling attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by Officer Hatton.
He faces charges of attempted unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, public intoxication, and resisting arrest by fleeing.
Kling was transported to the Lawrence County Jail. It was also discovered that Kling was currently out on bond for theft and public intoxication charges.
Those arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
