BEDFORD– A Bedford man was arrested on Friday, March 28, following an incident involving threats and the possession of firearms. He faces charges of Serious Violent Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Intimidation.

Stephen Lagenour

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Officer Brian Sorrells of the Bedford Police Department, officers responded to a call regarding threats at a residence on 11th Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with two women who reported that 77-year-old Stephan Lagenour had made threats and displayed firearms during an argument.

The incident stemmed from a dispute over candles. Both women, allergic to smoke, confronted Lagenour about burning candles in the house. This escalated into a verbal altercation, during which Lagenour allegedly became belligerent and intimidating.

One woman reported that Lagenour retrieved multiple loaded firearms from under the bed and made numerous threats. Both women stated that Lagenour’s actions were frightening and intimidating.

Further investigation revealed that Lagenour had a prior felony conviction for criminal confinement, classifying him as a serious, violent felon, which prohibits him from possessing firearms. A search warrant was obtained and executed, resulting in the seizure of multiple weapons and ammunition from the residence.

Lagenour was later located and apprehended by Officer Landon Jones while driving his motorcycle. During questioning, Lagenour denied owning firearms and claimed they belonged to one of the women. He also denied making threats.

Lagenour was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Those arrested are presumed innocent until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
