Cherry blossoms bloom in White River State Park

INDIANAPOLISThe Japanese Yoshino cherry blossom trees are blooming in White River State Park, and guests are encouraged to see them soon.

“Whether you’re a visitor to Indianapolis or a resident, the Yoshino cherry trees are putting on quite the display this year,” said Terry Seitz, Executive Director of the White River State Park Development Commission. “It’s a privilege to celebrate these living gifts every year!”

In 2012, Indianapolis was gifted 52 Yoshino cherry trees from Japan. The gift celebrated the 100th anniversary of the blooming of cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C., and honors the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan.

The 52 cherry blossom trees are in the park between the Indianapolis Zoo and the west bank of the White River. Visitors can park in the White River State Park parking garage, cross the Old Washington Street Bridge, and see the trees near the Waterfront Pavilion.

The park is thankful to the Japan-America Society of Indiana (JASI) for furthering this partnership between the park, the state of Indiana, and Japan.

Hoosiers and visitors are encouraged to come to the park and see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. It is the perfect spot for family photos, a picnic, or a beautiful view of the trees in front of the downtown skyline.
