Judge Plummer sentences habitual offender to 11 years in prison

BEDFORD– Jacob N. Bunch, 42, of Bedford, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison, with the first five years to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction, by Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III. The sentencing follows Bunch’s guilty plea to Possession of Methamphetamine and his admission to a Habitual Offender Enhancement.

The plea was part of a negotiated agreement with the State of Indiana. The case highlighted Bunch’s repeat offenses and the serious nature of the drug charge.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings commented on the sentencing, stating, “This defendant is a Habitual offender and had over seven grams of methamphetamine. This plea will keep Mr. Bunch from being a danger to the people of Lawrence County for a significant period of time. This office takes very seriously the obligation that we are entrusted with to help keep the public safe, sometimes that requires a defendant to go to prison.”

The habitual offender enhancement, which Bunch admitted to, significantly increased the potential sentence due to his prior criminal record. The court’s decision reflects the severity with which it treats repeat offenders, particularly those involved in drug-related crimes.
