WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, the Trump administration initiated a new wave of significant workforce reductions, targeting employees at various U.S. health agencies.
While the number of layoffs remains undisclosed, one FDA employee described the situation as a “bloodbath.” Substantial cuts affected CDC divisions focused on chronic illness, workplace health and safety, HIV, injury prevention, reproductive health, and smoking and violence prevention.
At the FDA, layoffs included the entire press office staff and employees within the Office of New Drugs, the Office of Policy & International Engagement, and the Office of Regulatory Programs.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides heating and cooling bill assistance to millions of low-income and working-class Americans, saw its entire staff terminated.
Layoffs also impacted the entire staff at the HHS Administration for Children and Families, a division that supports child care, family violence prevention, refugee resettlement, and Head Start programs.
